I Don't Know My Purpose (And That's Okay!)

Hello, my friends! As of late, I have been seeing many sermons preaching about the topic of purpose. And to be quite honest, for a while it would make me really insecure. I felt like they kept talking about ways to know what your purpose is, what steps to take for God to reveal your purpose, and how great your life can be once you know your purpose. I don't deny that knowing your purpose can be a wonderful feeling, and can greatly add to the direction of your life, however, I feel like the church puts way too much emphasis on "purpose". I found myself stressing out about my purpose and even though I have this ministry, I still feel like there is something else that I am supposed to be doing with my life. Earlier in my walk, I used to ask God about what I was supposed to be doing in a specific way, and I still haven't received an answer. It used to be something that would cause me to internalize self-shame because I thought I was doing something wrong. But I realize now that I don't really need to know my purpose to fulfill it. And my purpose also doesn't have to look grandiose for my purpose to be my purpose. God is in the everyday and my purpose could be day to day, or week to week, or year to year. It doesn't have to be or look intricate. My purpose for today could be to rest, or write a blog post, or cry out my feelings. I don't have to know the specificity in order to fulfill what I am supposed to do each day. And I don't need to know my specific purpose in order to have an impact on people's lives. Because if God is with me, then I will always have an anointing with me to complete whatever I have before me. And I don't need a special title to do anything that God wants me to do.
So if God hasn't told you your specific purpose yet, I wouldn't worry about it. Don't try to force it from Him to tell you, and don't spend your whole life trying to find it. There is purpose hidden in every single thing that we do, and a title doesn't make that task any less purposeful. Everything will fall into place in due time. But if you still want to know your purpose, everyone has a general purpose of loving God, loving themselves, loving others, and sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ. And those simple truths allow us to live out in very diverse and unique ways. There are many ways to show that you love yourself, others, and God. There are even many ways to spread the gospel. From preaching, to acting, to singing, and even just living out a Godly life and being yourself. Purpose is in everything, and if you're in the same boat with me and don't know your full purpose in life yet, you're not alone! I'm right there with you! And it will be okay! You don't need to know your purpose to do great things!
Keep steady my steps according to your promise, and let no iniquity get dominion over me.
Psalms 119:133 ESV
And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.
Philippians 1:6 ESV
